The Polish Conference of Chemical and Process Engineering has an almost 70-year-long tradition, dating back to its first edition in 1957 in Osieczna, organized by the Silesian University of Technology. In the subsequent decades, the conference played a pivotal role in fostering the integration of chemical engineering centers across Poland. A significant contribution to enhancing its scientific standing was made by the Committee of Chemical and Process Engineering, established in 1972 under the auspices of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Throughout its history, the conference has returned to the Małopolska region multiple times, with Cracow University of Technology serving as host in 1972, 1992, and 1998.
Throughout this nearly seven-decade history of the conference, chemical and process engineering has undergone significant transformation. While initially centered on traditional chemical industry sectors, the field has expanded to include cutting-edge fields such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, nanotechnology, the circular economy, and renewable energy sources. In the face of pressing global challenges – such as climate change, energy transition, pollution reduction, and the pursuit of sustainable development – chemical engineering now plays a vital role in designing and implementing advanced, efficient, and environmentally friendly technological solutions.
Moreover, contemporary chemical engineering increasingly focuses on the development of innovative materials and medical technologies. This includes the design of biomaterials, drug delivery systems, and functional materials used in diagnostics, implantology, and tissue engineering, underscoring the field’s growing importance in healthcare and quality of life improvements. Additionally, the digital transformation of processes through advanced computational tools, mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence, as well as control and automation systems, enables more precise design, monitoring, and management of complex industrial systems.
We are honored to continue this long-standing tradition by organizing the jubilee 25th edition of the Polish Conference of Chemical and Process Engineering in Krakow. This edition will reflect the remarkable evolution that chemical and process engineering has experienced over the past decades. The conference program will encompass a wide range of topics, to highlight the dynamic transformation and expanding scope of the field in response to modern technological and global challenges.
